3rd- and 5th-graders are glad to be back after a long weekend. One of their first stops is the media center to check out a book! Based on their Lexile levels, students choose AR books and take AR tests. Excitedly, they move through graphic novels, chapter books, fiction and non-fiction titles, and more. Best of luck on those tests, students!

Wilkinson County Schools would like to inform families that staff and students at our Elementary/Middle School campus briefly evacuated the building in response to a fire alarm.
After the campus was assessed, no fire, smoke, or other hazards were identified. All students and staff have safely reentered the building, and normal operations have resumed.

📚 The WCES Fall Book Fair starts tomorrow through Friday, September 4, and our entire community can help make it a success!
Families can preview available books and set up an eWallet, the easiest way for students to shop. Cash, cards, and checks payable to WCES will also be accepted.
Want to support another young reader? Through Share the Fair, families and community members can contribute funds to help students who may need assistance purchasing books.
Every Book Fair purchase will also move WCES closer to its $6,000 goal of purchasing a book vending machine for the campus. Whether you shop or give, your support helps put more books into our students' hands!

Ms. Cleveland's 1st-graders are soaring through their math concepts with the learning target of "I am learning what the 2 digits in a 2-digit number mean."
Using manipulatives, students demonstrated and explained that the two digits of a 2-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones. With the problems in their hands and on their papers, they quickly began to understand the difference between the tens and ones columns! Great work, 1st grade!

Parents' and students' names will be entered in a drawing for prizes throughout the evening; refreshments will be served upon entering, AND Kona Ice will be on campus for purchase! 🌟🎉

Sometimes students notice warning signs before adults do. Knowing what to look for can make a difference.
A concerning social media post. A threat. Bullying or harassment. Someone talking about hurting themselves or someone else. Or simply a situation that doesn’t feel right.
Through Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something program, students learn three important steps: recognize the warning signs, take them seriously, and say something.
Speaking up isn’t about getting someone in trouble. It’s about getting someone help. 💛

A group of our smallest Warriors, Ms. Crockett's and Mrs. Jackson's Pre-K students, are enjoying recognizing differences and similarities. Their tiny perspectives on what makes them the same (similar) and what makes them different were impressive! Coincidentally, two students were wearing the same shirt!
In the back of the class, Snoop Froggy, their class pet, has a different kind of skin and eats differently from these boys and girls, which makes them different! But he does have two eyes and two legs!

As part of this initiative, we will soon launch the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System across our schools. This program empowers students to recognize warning signs, speak up, and help create a culture where everyone looks out for one another.
Parents and guardians, please be on the lookout for a letter coming home with your student that will provide additional information about the program. As we begin implementation, our counselors and school administrators will also provide students with guided lessons to help them understand how the system works and when and how to use it. We appreciate your continued support in keeping our schools safe, welcoming, and supportive for every student.
