Throughout February, students at Wilkinson County Primary/Elementary School engaged in meaningful learning experiences to recognize and celebrate Black History Month.
Across grade levels, students explored the lives and contributions of African Americans who have shaped the history of the United States and the world. Through research, reading, writing, and classroom discussion, students learned about leaders, innovators, artists, and trailblazers whose impact continues to influence our communities today.
The learning extended beyond the classroom as hallways were transformed into student-created “Hall of Fame” displays featuring notable figures. As a culminating activity, students participated in a Notable Figures Wax Museum, presenting their research by portraying historical individuals and sharing their significance with visitors. The activity allowed students to strengthen speaking skills, build confidence, and demonstrate their understanding in an engaging, hands-on way.
The projects reflected thoughtful effort, creativity, and pride from students and teachers alike. Wilkinson County Schools is proud of the dedication our young learners showed as they honored important contributions while growing in knowledge and confidence.
